PhotoFestWV is all about connecting photographers,
exciting images and the local community.

The list below highlights some of the many formats that can achieve this goal.

LIVE EVENTS

Live events are an opportunity for the community to come and view photographs (either printed or projected) from one or more photographers. Printed items might be available for sale at events.

- PROJECTOR DISPLAY SHOWS (CURATED PHOTOGRAPHS)

This format would likely feature work around various themes and highlight a handful of photographers selected for each event. It would likely be projected images, possibly with music held at a venue such as the Opera House. In addition to showing the images, the photographers will share details about their work (including the story behind some of their photos) and answer audience questions. The event would likely be held at a set day and time and tickets may or may not be required to attend.

- PRINT PHOTO SHOWS (LIKLEY LESS CURATED & MORE PHOTOGRAPHERS)

Another format for a live event is a physical display of printed photographs from a likely wider range of photographers. This is similar to the format of the Artomatic events that are uncurated and allow any photographer to participate. As a less formal event, these would likely be held over a series of days and attendance would be more free-flowing (not ticketed). These are often considered a "pop-up" event and suitable venues include space for short term rent as well as buildings that are not fully used at the moment.

VENUE DISPLAYS

Venues around town (restaurants, art galleries, retail stores, offices, etc.) that have available empty wall space would be invited to display one or more printed photographs. These could be around a theme and we would work with each venue to determine the appropriate size and format for photographs, as well as discuss approximately how long the work could be displayed/rotated.

PHOTO SHARING/CONTESTS

On our social media (Facebook and Instagram), we would enjoy sharing photographs from a wide range of local photographers (including local residents and students). This sharing of work will occur throughout the year and might at times be themed showings.

MATERIALS FOR SALE (RETAIL)

Retail venues would be an excellent place to sell printed items featuring various photographs. Formats could include books, posters, greeting cards, puzzles, mugs, and more.

ONLINE DISPLAY AND SALES

The goal over time is to include a wide range of photographer's work available in multiple printed formats (same options as above).

MEETUPS

These would be opportunities for photographers of all experience levels to get together and learn from each other and shoot as a group. A proposed interest group as part of Shepherd University's lifelong learning program is an example of this effort. Details can be viewed here.

SHOOT EVENTS

We might offer events where we don't focus on displaying our work, rather, we offer photography to people and pets. This could be part of a fundraiser for a local non-profit and held as part of a larger festival or a stand alone event.
